Artist's Statement:
This piece is about the process of encountering personal barriers – whatever they may be. In the video, a series of men and women, including the artist, individually emerge from a blackened space and suddenly perceive an invisible barrier. Their emotional responses to this invisible barrier evoke neurotic and frustrated actions, which evolve and become determined and purpose driven. As a material, glass is symbolic of the unseen psychological barriers, which can protect, (as glass protects us from the outside world) yet can also limit one from a greater experience. The artist views “cracking-up” as a condition that bravely challenges the psychological ‘establishment’ we have created for ourselves.
