| Artist's Statement: Looking at the image of oneself in a mirror for a prolonged period can be psychologically hard and most people find it difficult. Recently, it has become easy for people to acquire images of themselves, either as video or digital photos. Combine this with the software effects of many computer imaging programs, or the built in effects in consumer video cameras and we have people experiencing, examining, and controlling images of themselves in new ways. We can closely examine that which we abhor about ourselves, and using digital technology re-create ourselves, as we would rather be. In this way, we become our own ‘Digital Frankenstein’. |
